Chinese BESS Market Surges: Record Shipments and Strong Growth

The Chinese BESS market is expanding, with HiTHIUM shipping 200 GWh of energy storage products and focusing on long-duration storage. Deye reports significant profit growth driven by rising energy storage demand. New transformers for large-scale storage and policy rules in Guangdong further support these advancements.

The Chinese energy sector is demonstrating significant advancements in battery storage and related technologies. HiTHIUM, a prominent energy storage manufacturer, recently announced that its cumulative shipments of storage products have exceeded the 200 GWh mark. This milestone was achieved in just over a year, following the company's passage of 100 GWh in August 2025. HiTHIUM ranked among the top 2 global suppliers by energy storage battery shipments in 2025 and the first half of 2026. The company is strategically focusing on long-duration energy storage (LDES) and commenced mass production at its integrated LDES industrial park in Heze, Shandong Province, in August. HiTHIUM aims for a global deployment of its integrated LDES solution, which includes 1,000 Ah-class cells, and seeks to cover the entire value chain from battery cells to the grid.

Financially, there are also positive developments. Deye, a Chinese manufacturer of inverters and energy storage equipment, anticipates a net profit of RMB 4.22 billion to RMB 4.32 billion for the first nine months of 2026. This represents a year-over-year increase of 79.81% to 84.07%. The projected profit growth is primarily attributed to rising international demand for energy storage products. Sales of residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage products have significantly increased, partly due to energy security policies and tighter electricity supply-demand conditions in various countries. Deye also highlights its global sales network and efficient supply-chain cost management as contributing factors.

In terms of infrastructure, CEEG and SINEXCEL have jointly developed a 13,800 kVA transformer specifically for energy storage applications. This oil-immersed, self-cooled transformer is designed for 40-foot high-cube containerized AC/DC integrated energy storage systems (ESS), enabling a rated continuous output of 13.8 MW per container. The transformer achieves an efficiency of 99.66%, surpassing the EU Tier 2 benchmark of 99.645%. Its design reduces overall weight by approximately 10% and is intended to be maintenance-free. The product line currently offers power ratings ranging from 6 MW to 13.8 MW, and provides grid-side voltage choices of 13.8 kV, 22 kV, and 33 kV. These products target GW-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects with integrated storage.

Finally, Guangdong province has introduced new pricing rules for local renewable energy consumption projects, including integrated source-grid-load-storage projects. These regulations stipulate that annually at least 60% of available renewable generation must be self-consumed, and a minimum of 30% of total electricity consumption must be covered by self-generated renewable energy. For new projects, this share will increase to 35% from 2030. Projects connected to the public grid will pay capacity- or demand-based transmission and distribution charges.
