Enertrag Reaches Financial Close for 117 MWh French BESS Project, Selects Huawei
Enertrag has achieved financial close for its 39 MW / 117 MWh Les Sablons BESS project in northern France. Construction for this three-hour duration storage system, co-located with wind generation, is already underway. Huawei has been chosen as the BESS OEM, with commercial operations targeted for spring 2027.
German renewable energy company Enertrag has successfully reached financial close for its Les Sablons battery energy storage system (BESS) project in northern France. Located in Vendeuil, within France’s Hauts-de-France region, this project boasts a capacity of 39 MW and 117 MWh. Construction is already underway, with commercial operations targeted to commence in spring 2027.
The Les Sablons project is notable for being one of the first three-hour duration BESS installations in France, strategically co-located with existing wind generation assets. This integration is expected to enhance grid stability and optimize renewable energy utilization. The financing for this significant project was secured with the Crédit Agricole group playing a key role.
Enertrag has selected Huawei as the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for the battery energy storage system. Gazel Energie will serve as the aggregator, facilitating the project's market participation. Renewable energy consultant Natural Power provided comprehensive technical due diligence support to Enertrag. This involved a thorough review of critical technical and contractual elements, including permitting, grid connection agreements, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts and route-to-market arrangements.
This recent achievement in France complements Enertrag's ongoing expansion across Europe. Earlier this month, the company initiated construction of a substantial 200 MW / 840 MWh BESS project in Bertikow, located in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, northeastern Germany. The German project will incorporate inverter technology supplied by SMA.
