The sodium-ion battery and energy storage sector is experiencing significant acceleration, with various projects entering construction, production, or capacity expansion phases. Total investments exceed RMB 12.5 billion, underscoring the growing focus on these technologies.

A prominent example is the project by Jiangsu Zenergy Battery Technologies Group Co., Ltd. in Changshu. This project, with an investment of RMB 10 billion, has received environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval. It includes the construction of sodium-ion battery production lines with an annual capacity of 50 GWh, alongside facilities for cathode and anode electrode production.

Developments are also occurring in materials. Chongqing Capchem New Materials Co., Ltd. has issued the first public notice for the EIA of its Phase II Battery Chemicals Project. This project will expand the annual production capacity by 50,000 tons of sodium-ion battery electrolytes, in addition to other chemicals.

Yixing Jina Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is accelerating the realization of its 5 GWh sodium-ion battery project. The factory renovation is complete, and the installation of production equipment is well underway. The first phase, with a 1 GWh capacity, focuses on stacked prismatic sodium-ion batteries for large-scale, commercial, and residential energy storage and is expected to commence production in November 2026. The second phase will add 4 GWh and begin in May 2027.

Furthermore, construction has commenced on the Jiangsu Yuedongda Semi-Solid-State Battery PACK Containerized Energy Storage Project, which will annually produce 5 GWh of semi-solid-state battery PACK energy storage containers. Official production is slated for the end of 2026.

The supply chain is also being strengthened. Geesun Intelligent has signed a RMB 2 billion project for the expansion of its manufacturing base for new energy battery production equipment, such as laser cutting machines and winding machines. This expansion responds to growing demand that exceeds the capacity of its first phase.

Finally, the Bazhong base of Namey New Energy Technology (Bazhong) Co., Ltd. has officially commenced production. This project, with an investment of approximately RMB 500 million, has a planned annual capacity of 1.5 GWh for sodium-ion batteries. Namey Technology also launched new 330Ah sodium-ion batteries for energy storage and 180Wh/kg anode-free sodium-ion batteries at this event.

These developments demonstrate robust growth and increasing confidence in the commercial viability of sodium-ion technology and broader energy storage solutions. The information for this article is sourced from EnergyTrend.
