Gotion High-Tech Secures Majority of Saudi Arabia's Inaugural BESS Tender
Gotion High-Tech has secured a significant portion of Saudi Arabia's first utility-scale BESS tender. The Chinese company will supply 6 GWh of battery storage for three sites, accounting for 75% of the total procurement. This project, valued at approximately $1.16 billion, represents a major step in Saudi Arabia's energy transition.
Gotion High-Tech has successfully secured a substantial share of Saudi Arabia's inaugural utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) tender. The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has awarded the Chinese firm 6 GWh of storage capacity.
This represents approximately 75% of the total tender, which encompasses a 2 GW/8 GWh project valued at an estimated $1.16 billion. Gotion High-Tech will serve as the sole technology supplier for three core sites: Al Muwayah, Haden, and Al Kahafa, each with a capacity of 500 MW/2 GWh.
These awarded contracts mark the first international large-scale deployment of Gotion Grid, the company's utility-scale storage system. This system is designed for a 25-year lifespan, which is 25% longer than the industry average of 15 to 20 years. This extended lifespan eliminates the need for mid-life equipment replacement, a critical factor for Build-Own-Operate (BOO) contracts requiring over 20 years of operation. All three sites are capable of remote operation and will be integrated into Saudi Arabia's 380 kV backbone grid.
This development underscores Saudi Arabia's serious commitment to achieving its 2030 energy transition goals.
