Trontek Aims for 12 GWh Battery Storage Capacity by 2028
Trontek Electronics announces an ambitious expansion into Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), targeting 12 GWh annual manufacturing capacity by 2028. The company introduces a wide range of domestically manufactured storage systems for residential, C&I, and utility-scale applications. Meanwhile, the Indian BESS market shows strong growth, with 8.2 GWh added in the first half of 2026.
Trontek Electronics, a prominent battery and energy technology company, has unveiled ambitious plans to expand its operations into battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company aims to achieve an annual manufacturing capacity of 12 GWh by 2028. This strategic move includes the introduction of a comprehensive portfolio of domestically manufactured energy storage systems, suitable for various applications, including residential, commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors, as well as utility-scale projects.
Trontek's new offerings encompass systems with capacities ranging from 215 kWh to 5 MWh. For commercial and industrial applications, Trontek has developed 215 kWh systems specifically targeting hotels, offices, and small to medium-sized manufacturing enterprises. These systems are designed to support demand management, energy optimization, and ensure power reliability. Additionally, 418 kWh systems have been made available for larger industrial facilities, such as factories, warehouses, hospitals, and industrial campuses.
For utility-scale applications, Trontek is providing 5 MWh containerized battery storage systems. These are intended for use in industrial parks, by utilities, and in large solar-plus-storage projects. The portfolio is completed with modular solutions for residential and distributed energy storage, which promote the utilization of renewable energy, energy management, and power resilience.
The company plans to support this expansion through local engineering and manufacturing capabilities. This includes the development of battery systems, extensive testing procedures, system integration, technology development, and service provision.
The Indian market for battery energy storage is demonstrating significant growth. According to Mercom India Research's recently released "Q2 and 1H 2026 India’s Energy Storage Landscape Report," a capacity of 8.2 GWh of battery storage was added in the first half of 2026. This represents an almost 84-fold increase compared to the 98.4 MWh installed during the same period last year. The cumulative installed battery energy storage capacity reached a total of 9.3 GWh by the end of June 2026. These figures indicate a sharp acceleration in deployments, as utilities increasingly utilize storage for grid balancing, peak demand management, and the integration of renewable energy sources.
