Energy Vault Acquires Significant 2.3 GW BESS Portfolio in the US
US energy storage company Energy Vault has acquired a 2.3 GW battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio from Goshe Energy Storage. This acquisition includes fifteen projects under development, with two 'ready-to-build' projects totaling 350 MW. The takeover strengthens Energy Vault's market position in the US energy storage sector.
Energy Vault, a prominent US energy storage company, has acquired a substantial portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS) from Colorado-based developer Goshe Energy Storage. This strategic move adds approximately 2.3 GW of BESS projects in development to Energy Vault's pipeline, spread across fifteen individual projects.
The acquisition includes two 'ready-to-build' projects with a combined capacity of 350 MW. These projects, comprising a 150 MW and a 200 MW BESS, are anticipated to commence commercial operations in the first quarter of 2028. Energy Vault expects these two projects to generate around US$30 million annually in EBITDA.
Beyond the projects, the acquisition also incorporates Goshe Energy Storage's experienced team, including professionals in project development and BESS project management. According to Cory Magnuson, president of Energy Vault's Asset Vault division, this acquisition aligns perfectly with the company's strategy of acquiring late-stage, de-risked development projects that can be efficiently moved towards construction and operation.
To support the development, construction, and operation of the acquired portfolio, Energy Vault has secured a credit facility commitment of up to $40 million from S2G Investments, a sustainability-focused investor. Bailey McCallum, Goshe's CEO, stated that joining Energy Vault allows their team to continue their work, supported by a large, vertically integrated, and global platform.
This acquisition follows other recent developments for Energy Vault. In February 2026, the company partnered with Peak Energy to co-develop a 1.5 GWh storage platform utilizing sodium-ion batteries, specifically for AI data centers. Last month, Energy Vault also signed a deal to supply 1.25 GW of off-grid BESS for an AI data center in Texas.
