NGEL Floats Tender for 3.3 GWh BESS Project in Gujarat
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has launched a significant tender for a 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gujarat, India. NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has issued a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gujarat, India. This project, with a capacity of 1,100 MW/3,300 MWh, is slated for development at NTPC Renewable Energy Limited’s Khavda solar plant.
The tender specifies four distinct blocks: three blocks each with 300 MW/900 MWh and one block of 200 MW/600 MWh. Each BESS block will be connected to the 33 kV level of the designated solar plant. The deadline for bid submission is October 27, 2026.
The scope of work encompasses a comprehensive range of activities, including the design, engineering, supply, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of the grid-connected BESS. The successful bidder will be responsible for a complete, turnkey solution, integrating the supplied equipment with the existing balance of system infrastructure. The battery system is expected to have a 25-year design life, based on a single cycle per day application. A minimum monthly round-trip efficiency of 80 percent, including auxiliary consumption, must be guaranteed.
Beyond the initial construction, the tender also includes comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) of the BESS for a period of 15 years, with an annual system availability of 98 percent. The Energy Management System (EMS) must be configurable to operate the BESS in various modes according to grid requirements, and it must support charging the BESS from the grid, with provisions for future integration with the solar plants. The BESS installation, including the battery management system (BMS), EMS, and fire safety systems, must comply with the latest Indian and international standards and guidelines.
This tender highlights the increasing emphasis on large-scale energy storage solutions to support renewable energy projects across India.
